Our Story

After becoming a busy mother, Shannon Nail found that it was becoming increasingly more difficult to join her running friends that met  out of Eau Claire Market's Running Room.  Recognizing the importance of having solid running community connections, she created a club of her own so she could meet the amazing runners of her new community and to keep herself inspired and active.  And so in 2016, Airdrie's Awesome Run Club was born to create a welcoming environment for runner's of all levels.

After Shannon's mom made the move from Calgary to Airdrie, she expressed a desire to get out, meet new people and be more active, however,  she was not a runner and didn't know how to go about it.  Wanting to help her mom, she evolved the club into Airdrie's Awesome Walk & Run Club in order to welcome our non-running friends, family and community members to join us.

And although, the name has changed once more to Airdrie's Walk & Run Club, we still remain the same Awesome club that was created back in 2016 with the vision of connecting our community through active living.

Walk & Run

Running since 2019, Christie started with the goal of completing a 5K but quickly discovered her love for the sport and its ability to challenge both body and mind. Since then, she’s completed a variety of races, including a 50K ultra marathon. Christie loves all forms of running, but trail running holds a special place in her heart—there’s something about the quiet beauty of nature that speaks to her soul. As a mother of two girls, it’s important to her to model a healthy lifestyle and show them the value of perseverance, self-care, and pushing boundaries. Running has taught her that she is capable of achieving things she once thought impossible, and she’s excited to continue testing her limits in the years to come.

Kimberly

Motivator

Walk & Run

Kimberly began running in 2018 in order to pursue a healthier lifestyle and to prepare for the 2019 Spartan Sprint race. Although the Spartan race was an amazing experience that showed her what she was capable of, it also showed her that her true passion was solely with running. Kimberly enjoys participating in both road and trail races of distances ranging from 5km to 21.1km, but given a choice, road races are her favorite so she can push the boundaries of just how fast she can go. After moving to Airdrie in 2021 and wanting to connect with a group of like minded individuals within her community, she sought out and found Airdrie’s Walk & Run Club. The Club has helped her to cultivate friendships, support and motivation and it continuously inspires Kimberly to improve her life, to keep pushing her boundaries and to help others do the same.

Walk

I moved to Airdrie in 1995, for work. I have two adult children and a wonderful wife. I enjoy attending gym classes at Genesis Place. Thanks to Shannon, I was introduced to the walking and running club, which I have enjoyed quite immensely and met a lot of new people. We have great conversations on our walks and afterwards we get to sit and have a coffee and relax.
